11/13/2020..OPELOUSAS, LA – Evangeline Downs hosted 11 qualifying trials for the $100,000-added Evangeline Downs Futurity (RG3) on Friday night and Special Mariposa posted the fastest time of the night with 19.789 seconds for the 400 yards in the first race of the evening. That time equaled a speed index of 92 over the fast track with Everardo Rodriguez in the saddle.

Special Mariposa has now won three of seven lifetime starts and the $3,000 first-place purse increases her lifetime earnings to $27,701. She was bred in Texas by Bob Gaston and Joe Rogriguez, owned by Maribel Hernandez and Martha Nevarez and trained by Adrian Huitron. The 2-year-old filly is by The Louisiana Cartel and is out of the Stoli mare, Pampered Silk.


FILLY WINS FIRST TRIAL WITH THE FASTEST TIME OF THE NIGHT

Each of the 11 Evangeline Downs Futurity trials offered a purse of $5,000 with the winner of each trial receiving $3,000. The 10 fastest qualifiers from these trials will come back to run in the Final on Saturday, December 12.
