VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs hosted the $65,000 Vals Fortune Teddy Abrams Memorial Stakes (RG2) on Monday afternoon and it was Jason Richards and Michael J. LeBlanc’s filly Lifeinthefastlanes who scored a narrow victory under jockey David Alvarez. It was the ninth victory from 13 career starts for the Kenneth Roberts, Sr. trainee.
– TALENTED FILLY GETS HER FIRST WIN OF THE YEAR –
After breaking sharply from the inside post position in a field of seven, Lifeinthefastlanes battled for the lead with Jrs Coronas Toast during the 400-yard test for Louisiana-breds. At the wire Lifeinthefastlanes proved a head better than Jrs Coronas Toast who finished second while Mpshinning would up third, another neck behind the runner-up.
Lifeinthefastlanes covered the distance over a fast track in 19.590 seconds, which equaled a speed index of 96.
Lifeinthefastlanes finished fourth in the Open Me a Corona Stakes at Delta Downs to start her 4-year-old campaign on May 11 before finishing third in the Mother’s Day Stakes 20 days later. Her winning effort in the Vals Fortune Teddy Abrams Memorial on Monday placed another $39,000 into her lifetime bankroll which now stands at $435,881.
Bred in Louisiana by Wade Loup, Jr. and Kay Loup, Lifeinthefastlanes is a brown filly by Jess Louisiana Blue, out of the Panther Mountain mare Pantherinthefastlane.
Sent to the gate at odds of 5-2, Lifeinthefastlanes paid $7.80 to win, $4.40 to place and $3 to show. Jrs Coronas Toast was worth $10 to place and $4.20 to show. Mpshinning returned $2.80 to show.
Delta Downs’ race week will continue on Tuesday with another nine-race program beginning at 3 pm. The track will be dark on Wednesday and Thursday. Live racing will resume on Friday with a special 12-race program beginning at 1:20 pm. The card will feature four trials for this year’s Delta Downs Derby and eight trails for the Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1). There will also be a special Saturday program that features eight more trials for the Lee Berwick. The Saturday program starts at 3 pm.
