06/16/2018..DELTA DOWNS..VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs hosted 14 qualifying trials for this year’s $700,000 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1), which will take place on closing night of the American Quarter Horse season, Saturday, July 7.
The fastest qualifier of the night was Jose Estrada Quarter Horses’ Eysa Jess Jumpn, who scorched 350 yards in 17.288 seconds (101 Speed Index) over a fast track during the ninth heat of the night. The Josue Huitron trainee was ridden to victory by jockey Guadalupe Lucio, Jr. Huitron also qualified the fourth fastest qualifier Sir Eye Opener.
Eysa Jess Jumpn was a late supplement to Saturday’s trials after she easily defeated a field of open-bred allowance horses in her most recent start on May 23. Overall, she has now won two of four career starts and has lifetime earnings of $22,800. She can earn another $350,000 to her total if she comes through with a victory in the Lee Berwick final.
Bred in Louisiana by D & S Racing LLC, Eysa Jess Jumpn is a 2-year-old filly by Heza Fast Dash, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Jumpn. She was purchased for $11,000 at the 2017 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale.
