05/23/2025..VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs host the $243,625 Lassie Futurity (RG2) on Friday night and the 330-yard event for 2-year-old Louisiana-bred fillies was won by Jaime Cardenas’ Marcy Train B under jockey Jorge Javier Garcia.

LAGARTIJA C BREAKS HER MAIDEN IN THE LASSIE STAKES

After breaking sharply from post No. 4 in a field of 10, Marcy Train B proceeded to open a lead on her rivals and with 100 yards to go she appeared to be an easy winner. But her work was not done as she repelled a late challenge by Mamma Im Leaving You before finishing a neck in front of her determined rival. Fastest qualifier Lm Ms Apollitical would up another ¾ of a length behind the runner-up in third.

The running time for Marcy Train B, who is trained by Miguel A. Castillo, was 16.889 seconds, which equaled a speed index of 90. Each race on the program was contested over a fast racetrack.

The win by Marcy Train B was the second of her four-race career. She broke her maiden at odds of 46-1 in the Lassie trials on May 2 after a pair of fourth place finishes at Louisiana Downs earlier in the year. She earned $121,812 for the win on Friday and now has a bankroll of $129,072.

Bred in Louisiana by Grant Farms, LLC, Marcy Train B is a 2-year-old sorrel filly by Freighttrain B, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Jessbye Marcy. She was purchased at the 2024 Louisiana Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale for $41,000.

Sent to the gate at odds of 10-1, Marcy Train B paid $23.80 to win, $9.40 to place and $4.40 to show. Mamma Im Leaving You was worth $4.60 to place and $2.60 to show. Lm Ms Apollitical returned $2.40 to show.

On the undercard Friday night, a field of nine-fillies went postward in the $40,000 Lassie Stakes, which serves as a consolation race for horses who didn’t quite make it into the Lassie Futurity final. The winner was CH Horse Racing, LLC’s Lagartija C ($20.40) under jockey Noe Castaneda.

Lagartija C broke her maiden in the race after finishing second in her trial and fourth in her debut at Louisiana Downs on March 8. The daughter of Ivory James, out of the Foose mare Bac In Front, is trained by Patrick Clemens.

Bred in Louisiana by Cox-Lane LLC, Lagartija C is a 2-year-old bay filly, who was purchased for $40,000 at the 2024 LQHBA Yearling Sale.
