05/16/2025..VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs kicked off a weekend of American Quarter horse racing with an exciting nine-race program on Friday night that included the $110,800 Old South Derby. The event was won by Rogelio Marquez, Jr.’s San Lorenzo Trump with jockey Leonardo Rodriguez in the saddle.

THE JEREMY DEROZIN TRAINEE GETS FIRST STAKES WIN IN THE $110,800 RACE

Bursting from post position No. 3 in a field of 10, San Lorenzo Trump battled for the lead early in the 330-yard test for 3-year-olds before drawing clear of his competition late. The Jeremy Derozin trainee reported home a ½ length in front of Cc Valiant, who finished second. Celebratingtheeagle was another nose back in third.

San Lorenzo Trump covered the distance over a fast track in a time of 16.763. Each race on the program was contested over a fast track. The winner’s time equaled a speed index of 93.

The win by San Lorenzo Trump was the third of his nine-race career. He took home $55,400 for the tally and now has a career bankroll of $95,284.

Bred in Oklahoma by Donald J. Friesen, San Lorenzo Trump is a sorrel colt by Apollitical Jess, out of the Streaking La Jolla mare Legacys A Streakin.

Sent off at odds of 7-2, San Lorenzo Trump paid $9.60 to win, $5.20 to place and $4 to show. Cc Valiant was worth $5.40 to place and $4 to show. Celebratingtheeagle returned $5.40 to show.

Delta Downs will close out the race week on Saturday with another nine-race program that kicks off at 6:15pm. The featured race will be the $194,020 Old South Futurity going as the eighth race on the card.
