06/12/2025..VINTON, LA. – The third and final trial for this year’s Firecracker Derby provided plenty of fireworks on Thursday as San Lorenzo Trump and Famous Flyin Cowgirl finished in a dead heat for the fastest qualifying time of the night, 17.606 (95 speed index) for 350 yards. Each race on the program was contested over a sealed and muddy racetrack.

THE $130,100 FINAL TAKES PLACE ON FRIDAY, JULY 4

San Lorenzo Trump was ridden to victory by jockey Leonardo Rodriguez, who accepted the mount from trainer Jeremy Derozin. The property of Rogelio Marquez, Jr. was making his 10th career start, and the win marked his fourth tally. San Lorenzo Trump came into the Firecracker trials off a big win in the Old South Derby at Delta Downs on May 16.

Bred in Oklahoma by Donald J. Friesen, San Lorenzo Trump is a 3-year-old sorrel colt by Apollitical Jess, out of the Streakin Lajolla mare Legacys A Streakin.

Famous Flyin Cowgirl was ridden by Ricardo Hernandez, Jr. She is owned by Raul Beltran and is trained by Jose Carrizales. Her win in the trials marked the third trip to the winner’s circle from 12 overall starts.

Each Firecracker trial carried a purse of $5,000 and the winners took home $3,000 apiece.
