07/30/2020..VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs hosted four qualifying trials for this year’s $256,305 Delta Downs Louisiana-bred Derby (RG3) on Thursday night and fans had to wait for the final heat to see the fastest qualifier. Under jockey David Alvarez, Lifeinthefastlanes stopped the clock at 19.568 seconds while traveling 400 yards over a fast track to claim the top spot heading into the August 22 final.

Lifeinthefastlanes, who is trained by Kenneth Roberts, Sr. and owned by Jason Richards and Michael J. Leblanc, scored her fifth career win from seven trips to the starting gate on Thursday while earning $7,200 for the effort. Her overall bankroll now stands at $125,593. Each Delta Downs Derby trail featured a purse of $12,000 for the 3-year-olds.

Bred in Louisiana by Wade, Jr. and Kay Loup, Lifeinthefastlanes is a brown filly by Jess Louisiana Blue, out of the Panther Mountain mare Pantherinthefastlane. She was purchased for $41,000 at the 2018 Louisiana Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale.

Delta Downs will continue its race week on Friday and Saturday with the most important trails of the season. Each program will feature 10 trials for this year’s $1,025,782 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1), which will mark the richest race in track history regardless of breed on closing night, August 22. The top five times from each card will earn a spot in the starting gate of the rich final.
