04/04/2025..OKLAHOMA CITY – The Remington Park pre-season training race superstar, Entice Me Ona Monday, pulled off a minor upset as the fastest qualifier of the first night of Remington Park Futurity trials, beating Oklahoma Futurity winner Flying Joy 1 in the same trial.

There were 10 trials Friday night for 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred American Quarter Horses trying to qualify for the finals of the $868,455 Remington Park Futurity at 330 yards. The five fastest qualifiers from the tonight’s trials will join the five fastest from 10 trials on Saturday evening, in the finals scheduled for Saturday, April 19.

Entice Me Ona Monday, an Oklahoma-bred gelding by Cyber Monday, out of the Make It Anywhere mare Enticilizeur, set the track on fire on Feb. 27 in a schooling race, winning by 2-1/2 lengths that day with a 250-yard time of :13.38 seconds, the fastest time of any training race this meet. The swift gelding matched that effort Friday night when he took on a filly, Flying Joy 1, that had already won $173,786 in two races before  he had yet to pocket one dollar. Entice Me Ona Monday was up to the task, winning in a time of :16.369, earning a 103 speed-index over the sealed and muddy track. Flying Joy 1 recorded a 101 speed-index.

When the gates popped open for this trial, the ninth of the night, both Garcia on Entice Me Ona Monday, and Ricky Ramirez, in the saddle again for Flying Joy 1, were ready for the matchup everyone had been waiting on all night. They both broke like lightning, the winner in post-position two while Flying Joy 1 was in post number seven. They battled like two warriors and when they made their way to the finish line, it was Entice Me Ona Monday in front by a half-length. Flying Joy 1 finished as the second-fastest qualifier of the night, setting up a rematch in the finals.

Entice Me Ona Monday was the third winner in trials Friday for trainer Jason Olmstead, who had only won with 2-of-32 to start the meet. There is no doubt his horses came to run on this night. Olmstead also qualified Illegal Cowgirl 123 in the top five, winning trial seven. His third trial winner came in trial number six when Famous N Relentless won.

Entice Me Ona Monday, owned by the Tejas Troubadours of Rhome, Texas, wasn’t hurt by a tailwind of 18 mph during his race. The early trials on the night’s card were more in the 11-12 mph tailwind range. Entice Me Ona Monday, bred in Oklahoma by Monty McNair, is looking like a bargain, having been purchased out of the Heritage Place September Yearling Sale last year for $30,000. Flying Joy 1, bred in Oklahoma by Cuadra JM, has made back more than three times her purchase price of $49,000 from the same sale in Oklahoma City. Flying Joy 1 is a daughter of Flying Cowboy 123, out of the First Moonflash mare Kylee Joy, and is owned by David R. Rogers of Graham, Texas.

Other than Entice Me Ona Monday, the other five qualifiers Friday night; with jockey, trainer, trial number (race number), times and speed index:

  • Flying Joy 1, Ricky Ramirez, Trey Wood, trial nine (race 10), :16.459, 101
  • Illegal Cowgirl 123, Ramiro Garcia, Jason Olmstead, trial eight (race nine), :16.547, 97
