VINTON, LA. –  Delta Downs hosted 15 qualifying trials for this year’s $339,931 Louisiana Lassie Futurity (RG2) on Friday night and the fastest clocking of the evening went to Shes a Cartel, who posted a 330-yard mark of 16.427 seconds, which equaled a massive speed index of 105. Each trial on the program was contested over a fast track.

Shes a Cartel took the sixth trial of the night under jockey Modesto Pina. The bay filly was making her second career start for owner Pina-Garcia ranch and trainer Wendy Garcia. Her career debut took place in the Mardi Gras Futurity trials at Louisiana Downs on February 23 when she finished a close second.

Each trial on Friday night carried a purse of $12,000 and the winner’s each took home $7,200. Shes a Cartel bankroll after the win stood at $8,400 but could grow exponentially if she takes the Lassie final, which carries a first prize of $169,965.63.

Shes a Cartel was purchased for $7,500 at the 2018 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale in August. She is a daughter of Five Bar Cartel out of the Game Patriot mare Carry on Baby.

Listed below are the 10 qualifiers for this year’s Louisiana Lassie Futurity from the fastest time down. The Lassie final will take place on Friday, May 17.

Delta Downs will wrap up its second week of racing with a special 17-race program on Saturday night that starts early at 3:30 pm CST. Each race on the card will be a qualifying trial for this year’s $369,405 Louisiana Laddie Futurity.
