5/11/2017..Remington Park..Oklahoma City – Snow Chief Running scored his second straight win of the Remington Park season on Thursday night, this time setting a new track record in the process.
A 4-year-old Paint gelding, Snow Chief Running won a $10,000-level claiming race for Paints and Appaloosas at 550 yards, with a purse $12,650. The distance, rarely run for Paints and Appaloosas at Remington Park, was handled in 26.938 seconds over a fast track that was sealed. The old mark at 550 yards was 27.220 seconds and was set exactly five years ago on May 11, 2012 by Dos Of Joe Watson, a Paint who was a 5-year-old at the time.
Snow Chief Running is owned and bred by John Stephens of Porter, Okla. and trained by Dee Keener. Jockey Rolando Raudales rode the Oklahoma-bred by SM Country Snowman from the Seattle Bound (tb) mare Fierce Ladyliberty (tb). The win was worth $7,415 to Snow Chief Running who increased his career earnings to $30,334. He has now won four races from 17 career attempts.
Snow Chief Running edged Jungle Chick by a neck at the finish. At 9-5 odds in the betting, Snow Chief Running paid $5.60 to win, $3 to place and $2.20 to show. Jungle Chick paid $3 to place and $2.40 to show. Sturgis was third and paid $2.60 to show.
Remington Park racing is dominated by trials for the $1.1 million Heritage Place Futurity on Friday and Saturday nights, May 12 & 13. All 12 races each night are for eligible 2-year-olds with the five fastest at 350 yards each night moving on to the Grade 1 final on June 3. The first race Friday and Saturday is at 6pm.
The Mothers’ Day program on Sunday afternoon May 14 will begin at 1:30pm and feature three American Quarter Horse Association Challenge Stakes and trials for the $297,100 Heritage Place Derby.
