04/29/2017..REMINGTON PARK , OKLAHOMA CITY – A set of three trials were conducted over a sloppy track on Saturday night at Remington Park, determining the finalists for the Grade 2, $100,000 Bank of America Oklahoma Challenge on May 14. EOS Corona N Chicks posted the top time at 440 yards, leading a total of five runners from the second trial to make the final.
Owned by Elite Oilfield Services of Perryton, Texas and trained by Joel Valeriano, Jr., jockey Omar Reyes had the call of EOS Corona N Chicks who handled the distance in 21.322 seconds. A 4-year-old gelding by Separatist from the Corona Cartel mare Remember The Cartel, EOS Corona N Chicks was bred in California by Dr. Steve Burns.
The trial win is the third career victory from 10 attempts for EOS Corona N Chicks who also won for the first time in five Remington Park starts.
The field for the Bank of America Oklahoma Challenge at Remington Park on May 14, with individual time and trial number: EOS Corona N Chicks, 21.322 seconds (trial 2); Torts On Fire, 21.369 seconds (trial 2); Boogies Special Dash, 21.402 seconds (trial 2); Sky Bo Dash, 21.481 seconds (trial 3); River Wind, 21.615 seconds (trial 3); Rockin Disco, 21.697 seconds (trial 3); Three Olives N Smoke, 21.729 seconds (trial 1); A Royal Country Man, 21.730 seconds (trial 2); Dynamite 123, 21.731 seconds (trial 2) and JZ Zoomin Wootan, 21.738 seconds (trial 3).
There were also two other sets of trials for American Quarter Horse Association Challenge stakes races on Saturday at Remington Park, with the finals also set to be held on May 14.
Grade 3, $50,000 Oklahoma Distance Challenge trials
Thespeedprofessor won the first of two trials to qualify the field of eight in the 870-yard race. Owned by Darling Farms of Lamont, Okla. and trained by Michelle Hurdle, the 5-year-old gray gelding covered the ground in 45.135 seconds over a sloppy track with Mario Delgado in the saddle.
A son of Furyofthewind from the Takin On The Cash mare Dreams For Lyndsie, Thespeedprofessor won his fifth career race from 15 starts, and his third around the turn at 870 yards.
Also joining Thespeedprofessor in the Oklahoma Distance Challenge on May 14, with individual time and trial number: Give It To Shaq, 45.546 seconds (trial 1); Jess Little Rusty, 45.664 seconds (trial 1); Admiral Zoomwalt, 45.766 seconds (trial 2); Quarter Focus, 45.789 seconds (trial 2); CJs Rocksolid, 45.950 seconds (trial 1); CJs Rockhard N Ready, 46.042 seconds (trial 2) and Juno Dat Timber, 46.224 seconds (trial 2).
Grade 3, $40,000 Merial Oklahoma Distaff Challenge trials
Time For Wine was the best over two trials at 400 yards for fillies and mares, 3 and older, on Saturday night to set the standard in qualifying for the Merial Distaff Challenge. Owned by Pete Scarmardo of Caldwell, Texas and trained by John Weghorst, the 5-year-old mare crossed the finish in 19.450 seconds in the second trial.
Jockey James Flores had the mount on Time For Wine, winner of the 2016, $125,000 Merial Distaff Challenge Championship at Los Alamitos in southern California in October. A daughter of Mr Jess Perry from the First Down Dash mare Fine Wines, Time For Wine was bred in California by Vessels Stallion Farm.
The Saturday night trial win is the fifth career score for Time For Wine from 18 attempts as she won her Remington Park debut.
