03/23/2019..REMINGTON PARK..OKLAHOMA CITY – EC Revenge’s owner Elizabeth Logan of Haskell, Okla., must not have wanted to rush into the business of owning racehorses. The 92-year-old won the Grade 2, $396,650 Oklahoma Futurity for 2-year-old American Quarter Horses on Saturday night at Remington Park.

“It took me to 92 years old to do something like this,” Logan said with a laugh after her juvenile gelding flashed to the wire like lightning in the feature race of seven stakes events on Remington Park’s 12-race card.

She certainly had something to smile about as this son of Hes Relentless, out of the Corona Cartel mare SS Pamilla, made the bank account go cha-ching, earning $158,660 for the victory. He was bred in Oklahoma by William E. Smith.

The victory was jockey James Flores’ fifth trip to the winner’s circle on the night (he won the nightcap also to conclude a six-win evening), vaulting him back into the lead in the rider standings this meet. The defending champion jockey at Remington Park, Flores won the Oklahoma Futurity for a second time in the past four years. He also won in 2016 with Coronas First Diva. Flores had them laughing in the winner’s circle when there was a minor glitch with the microphone during his post-race interview.

“He ran so fast he knocked out the electricity and the sound,” Flores told Logan and trainer Dee Keener.

“I love my jockey and trainer,” Logan said. “James can ride him again.”

EC Revenge blazed to the win over a fast track in a time of 15.307 seconds for 300 yards, earning a speed index of 93. He now has $164,390 in two starts. He finished a full length ahead of the field. Pepper Ryan was second, another length in front of third-place runner Southern Fast Success. The winner went off at 5-2 odds and returned $7.80 to win, $4.40 to place and $3.60 to show.

EC Revenge was the top qualifier from 12 trials for the Oklahoma Futurity on March 9. The historic Oklahoma Futurity was contested for the 78th time. It is the longest running futurity in American Quarter Horse racing with the first edition held in 1947. Remington Park has conducted the race since 2006.

Remington Park racing continues on Sunday, March 24 with a 10-race afternoon program underway at 1:30pm-Central.
