04/28/18..DELTA DOWNS..VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs conducted a special 13-race program on Friday night to accommodate qualifying trials for this year’s Louisiana-bred Lassie Futurity (RG2). This year’s Lassie will feature a purse of $283,715. The 10 fastest times from the trials earned a spot in the rich race.

The fastest qualifier of the night was Rogue Equine LLC’s filly Rogue One, who won the fourth trial of the night with jockey Everardo Rodriguez aboard. Last year’s $100,000 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale purchase is trained by Martin Trejo. The fourth trial produced three of the 10 finalists. In addition to Rogue One, Im for Real and Brexit also made it to the May 18 final from that heat.

The victory by Rogue One came in her career debut, in which she broke alertly but had to rally past two early leaders, Im for Real and Apolitical Blue, before hitting the finish line ¾ of a length in front. The final time for Rogue One was 16.756 seconds in the 330-yard test conducted over a fast track.

Rogue One is a sorrel filly by Heza Fast Dash, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Miss Jess Rogue. She was bred in Louisiana by Triple M Farms LLC.

Sent to the gate at odds of 7-2, Rogue One paid $9 to win, $5.60 to place and $3.20 to show as the third choice of the betting public.

Although he only qualified one horse to the final of the Lassie Futurity, trainer Saul Ramirez, Jr. saddled four winners on the program Friday night. Three of Ramirez’s winners came with young jockey Eddie Sanchez in the saddle.
